Hi, I’m Josh
I’ve been taking occasional photography jobs for over 20 years, starting as a photographer’s assistant to my Uncle in my late teens. While studying journalism at Umass Amherst, I had several photography internships, shooting for the Cape Cod Times, Daily Hampshire Gazette, and the Valley Advocate, and I also held the position of Photo Editor for the Amherst Wire.
I have always been a little protective of my photography. Over the years, I would get requests to shoot family portraits and a few friends' weddings, but I hesitated to make the leap and start calling myself a professional photographer. I worried that if I turned my passion into a formal job, it would lose its special meaning. A visit to a friend’s house changed that for me. On their wall, I noticed a collection of portraits that I had taken of their family over the past few years. I realised how much satisfaction I found in seeing those photos, knowing how precious they were to my friend, and how those photos would be viewed and used to tell the story of their family for generations to come.
This past year, I decided to make the leap and started booking clients on a regular basis. That brings us to this website, and to you!
Overlook Photo takes its name from the inspiring views of the Pioneer Valley that my wife and I have enjoyed during our hikes to the top of Mt. Holyoke.
